B&M is selling a ‘wonderful’ £15 wooden item that could be ideal for nature lovers. The discount store often stocks garden products for shoppers looking to spruce up their outdoor spaces.
For customers keen to attract wildlife to their gardens, B&M is stocking a £15 Hedgehog House that could encourage nocturnal visitors. Showcasing the product on its website, the retailer said: “House a hedgehog in this wonderful Hedgehog Hut. The perfect place for hedgehogs to settle, this hut is perfect for wildlife in your garden.”
The hedgehog house measures approximately 45 x 34 x 28.5cm. Shoppers interested in the item can purchase it from B&M stores. Customers can find their nearest location here.
According to the RSPCA, adding a hedgehog house to your garden could be a great way to help local wildlife. The animal welfare charity explains: “Hedgehogs are regular visitors to our gardens, with as many as 10 different hedgehogs travelling through in a single night.
“However, the UK’s only spiny mammal species is in decline. A loss of natural habitat means less shelter and food is available for hedgehogs – which is why they need us more than ever.

“By making your garden hedgehog-friendly, you’re providing them with a safe space to survive – and thrive. Building a hedgehog home will help hedgehogs in the UK by offering a habitat in which they can rest, nest and hibernate. They may stumble across the hedgehog house when out snuffling for food, or choose to rear their hoglets inside this new home.”
While people might choose to buy a hedgehog house, and the RSPCA sells one for £32 on its website, it’s also possible to make your own. The RSPCA provides instructions on its website, explaining that the DIY project requires around 20 to 30 old bricks, a couple of paving stones, and small logs, twigs, and soil from the garden.
Anyone who adds a hedgehog house to the garden is advised to follow a few rules to help look after any residents. The RSPCA explains: “Keep your hedgehog house a safe and cosy place for hedgehogs by topping up the old leaves by the entrance every once in a while.”

The list continues: “Only cleaning it in October – after hoglets have left, but before hedgehogs hibernate. Placing any food you may leave out away from the hedgehog house, as they prefer to sleep away from where they eat.”
The animal charity adds: “Don’t disturb the occupants. To find out if your house is being used, put a small twig across the entrance – if it’s moved, someone’s been there!”
