Celebrate spring at Longue Vue fest Saturday
Explore the gardens, play lawn games, participate in crafts and perhaps get a glimpse of the bunny when Longue Vue House and Gardens hosts Spring Fest from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday.
Also Saturday, Landy Livingston will read a book with musical accompaniment as part of the Emma Brown Reading Program, open to all, at 12:30 p.m. on the Oak Lawn. Participants receive a copy, a journal and pencil while supplies last. A community dance class will be held at 3 p.m.
Registration is $15 per person. Longue Vue members receive a $5 discount on registrations.

Destrehan garden, pet show this weekend
The fourth annual Spring Garden and Pet Show will attract more than 75 vendors to Destrehan Plantation, 13034 River Road, selling decor, jewelry and plants, including house plants, vegetables, rare plants, fruit trees and herbs.
Presented Saturday and Sunday by the River Road Historical Society and the LSU AgCenter, the show will also have experts on-hand as well as seminars on plant care, soil health, climate, wildlife and pets. And local rescue organizations will have adoptable pets.
Visitors can hear live music and peruse food vendors, and for the younger participants are a kids’ corner, egg hunts and more.

Bromeliad Society show, sale set for Lakeside
Head to the skylight area near the parking garage at Lakeside Shopping Center for three days of bromeliads. The Greater New Orleans Bromeliad Show and Sale is from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. March 27-28 and noon to 6 p.m. March 29.

Home, boat shows paired at Superdome March 27-29
The New Orleans Home and Garden Show heads to the Caesars Superdome on March 27-29 and will be joined by the New Orleans Boat Show at the same time.
The Home Builders Association of Greater New Orleans show packs the Dome with products and service providers. Check out trends in everything from kitchens and baths to spas and pools, grills to garages and security to solar panels.
Plus, Entergy will hold demonstrations on dealing with power and lines, and gardening tips will be another program. The Home Builders also sponsor an Ask the Experts booth with information on topics from roofs to basements and all in between.
Hundreds of boats will also be available to view as the watercraft show sails into the dome with more than 50 vendors with boats, motors, accessories and financing will be “all hands on deck.”

Orleans residents can get free wood chips
The city will be distributing free wood chips to Orleans Parish residents from 8 a.m. to noon every Saturday through May 30 at 1 Green Parade Lane.
The Department of Parks and Parkways, which generates the chips from routine tree-trimming operations, is continuing its efforts to divert green waste from local landfills and promote sustainable practices.
This initiative supports the city’s broader sustainability goals while providing a practical benefit to residents.
Chips are available on a first-come, first-served basis.Residents must bring their own loading supplies, including shovels, gloves, bags, containers and any other necessary equipment.Staff will not be able to assist with loading.

St. Tammany Master Gardeners to host seminar
The St. Tammany Master Gardener Association will host a spring seminar titled “Seeing is Believing” from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 27 at the Castine Center at Pelican Park in Mandeville.
Speaker presentations will include “Seeds of Sustainable Landscaping — Tips to Keep Your Garden Growing,” “Management of Soil Seedbank for Landscapes” and “Seeding for Success — Information on Starting Plants from Seeds.”
Other topics focus on tropical house plants, cold weather seed starting, growing garden roses, using native plants in the home landscape and making food and medicine with spring weeds. Registration is required by March 20.
