A Dorset garden centre is marking 25 years of growth and community impact.

Chestnut Nursery in Poole, a charitable garden centre supporting adults with mental health conditions, will celebrate the milestone on Saturday, 28 March, with a day of festivities and fundraising.

Andy Verreck, manager at Chestnut Nursery, said: “On behalf of Plants and Minds, I would like to thank our team members, colleagues, Volunteer Friends, customers and supporters for making Chestnut the success it is today.

“From a seedling of a project to a state-of-the-art charitable garden centre, Chestnut has evolved into a thriving community for adults with mental health challenges – and the first port of call for gardeners seeking quality plants and gardening accessories.

“The nursery is bursting at the seams with springtime colour and we will have treats galore in store for customers on 28 March, so make a date in your diary to pop down.”

The first 50 customers to the nursery at 75 Kingland Road will receive a free gardening gift.

There will also be homemade cakes, live music, and a raffle with prizes throughout the day.

Plant promotions will also be available.

Chestnut Nursery first opened on the former Poole Council Nursery site on the edge of Poole Park in 2001.

It offers horticultural therapy to adults with mental health challenges.

Guests at the event can enjoy exclusive plant deals, homegrown spring blooms, and a chance to support a project that has changed lives over the past 25 years.

Saturday, March 28, will also see the launch of Chestnut’s Big 25 Challenge – a fundraiser aimed at generating vital income to upgrade facilities for service users.

Every £25 raised will help Chestnut to grow.

Ideas include sponsored running, baking, walking, workout and reading challenges.

All funds raised support Chestnut’s mission to reduce isolation and improve wellbeing in a supportive, non-judgemental setting.

Since a major redevelopment in 2019, the number of team members progressing into paid employment has risen by 300 per cent.

Sales have increased by 150 per cent.

The nursery was previously at risk of closing due to financial pressures.
