Inherited this ‘Giant Bird of Paradise’ but it can’t stand up on its own

As the title says. I have it in the corner because it can not support the weight of its own leaves. I’m sure this location isn’t ideal but I just got it and am not sure what to do.

Should I just buy a stake and tie it to it? Should I cut the big leaves off?(seems sad)

I like the plant and how it looks so would welcome any advice on how remedy the situation.
