hey all ,
im giving my first diy backround in this eventual whites tree frog vivarium . i had the bright idea to make my water way for the water feature to be these pieces of cork bark i had laying around .
after a rough draft set up of it and 24hrs cycle time i noticed i am getting some water making its way thru the cork bark ( i know cork bark is pourous but these peices i thought would keep things going where i want ) surprise !! i was wrong
i liked the void behind it for a plant option or a frog grotto so ld like to avoid going expanding foam all behind it to fill in the void behind it route.
is there a fish safe / reptile safe sealant i could apply to the top surface of my corkbark water fall area that would make it water proof ?. almost like a shellacking or wood finish/sealer .i considered the aquarium silicone but the foggy finish it has i think will look like crap .
here is a photo of the non finished water feature please dont judge me too much as its very unfinnished i have alot of work to do yet .

Food safe silicone. Pretty cheap and works.
I find ASI silicone is the best. It’s for aquariums and it holds up a lot better than the food grade stuff you can get at a hardware store. But it’s more expensive.
It should smell like vinegar when curing.
Also gonna wanna dry out that cork or it won’t seal very well.
Polygem 1618, its going to be pricey but is probably the best option. Made with use in vivarium/aquariums in mind and dries clear. It is a high gloss finish but in an area that is already wet that shouldn’t be a big deal. Its pretty easy to use just make sure to mix thoroughly.
