The Garden Club of South Carolina is welcoming a new Federated Garden Club in North Myrtle Beach.
North Myrtle Dunes and Blooms Garden Club is excited to join the community of garden lovers who share a passion for plants, flowers and the joy of cultivating beauty. Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or just starting your journey, you’ll find plenty of inspiration, support and friendship here.
The members of the club are primarily transplants from other states and as a group are interested in learning what will grow in this coastal climate and how to help the lawns, trees, bushes and flowers thrive.
The new group started in September 2025 and has been busy getting organized. They have had several planning meetings and had the first fun outing in November. It was to the L.W. Paul Living History Farm where the group toured the farm and also got to dye a few articles with indigo dye. In December, the group also met for a holiday dinner and cookie exchange.
January was an eventful month for the club. The club’s monthly meeting was held at the home of Phil Ward in North Myrtle Beach. Members and guests enjoyed heavy hors d’oeuvres prepared by members. The guest speaker was Tara Ranson, Garden Club of South Carolina (GCSC) Membership Chair. She spoke on membership, benefits of being a federated club, and the general activities of the state organization.
North Myrtle Dunes and Blooms Garden Club was accepted as a federated club by the GCSC at the Board of Directors meeting in Columbia, S.C., on January 22, 2026. Betty Jackson, President of GCSC, presided over the Board of Directors meeting. North Myrtle Dunes and Blooms President Wayne Barker and Vice President Sharon Robinson accepted the certificate of federation from Tara Ranson, GCSC Membership Chair, Coastal District Director Graceann Phillips; and Assistant District Director Juanita Burnett.
On Tuesday, February 10, the monthly meeting was held at the home of Jay and Pam Offutt in Myrtle Beach. Members and guests were welcomed by President Wayne Barker. A delicious array of food was enjoyed by the members and guests. Allen Little, owner of Little Nursery Farms in Longs, was the speaker. His discussion and presentation dealt with annuals and perennials that are suitable for planting in this area.
