What better way to welcome spring than with a new garden center?

Van Wilgen’s Garden Center is hosting a grand opening ceremony today, March 19 at noon, according to the business, for their newest location at 1198 Queen St in Southington.

“The event takes place just as we say goodbye to winter and hello to spring, and marks the official reopening and extensive renovation of the longtime former Smithland Pet & Garden Center/Agway property, restoring a major garden and landscape retail destination to the Queen Street corridor,” according to Van Wilgen’s Garden Center.

Here is what attendees can expect, according to Van Wilgen’s Garden Center:

“The event will celebrate both the launch of the new store and the revitalization of a long-standing community retail site,” according to Van Wilgen’s Garden Center. “There will be an official grand opening event on April 11-12.”

“The Southington location will offer Van Wilgen’s signature selection of high-quality plants, gardening essentials, landscaping supplies, and seasonal merchandise,” the Van Wilgen’s Garden Center statement went on to say, “while helping fill a regional need for year-round horticultural and landscape products.

“The expansion is expected to create approximately 25 jobs. Several former employees from the previous operation have also joined the new store team, helping preserve local knowledge and maintain continuity for customers.”
