He famously interviewed celebrities between two ferns and now he is getting into the gardening biz with Netflix.

Zach Galifianakis is teaming with the streamer on This is a Gardening Show, described as a “refreshing and whimsical take on gardening.” It will launch on Earth Day, April 22.

Rather than positioning himself as an expert, Galifianakis will approach the subject with “curiosity and self-effacing humor,” blending comedy with an appreciation for the planet. His aim is to give audiences accessible tools and tips to use in their own gardens.

Galifianakis is a big gardening fan and the show represents Netflix’s latest push into the lifestyle space. For a decade he hosted Between Two Ferns, a satirical web series talk show in which he interviewed two famous guests seated between two potted plants. The show ran for a decade and spawned a Netflix movie.

“Zach brings an infectious warmth and humor that makes the world of gardening accessible and delightful for all ages,” said This is a Gardening Show producer Chris Kim. “He can leave you in stitches one moment and, in the next breath, have you genuinely convinced that horse manure is the chocolate soufflé of the gardening world and before you know it, you’re googling the nearest stable.”

Director Brook Linder added: “Making this show often felt like Zach’s excuse to talk to other gardeners. I kinda think his garden was struggling and he needed help he couldn’t get by walking up to these people in their backyard. You will see a grown man honestly gasp when shown the proper way to plant a seed. This is peak TV.”

This is a Gardening Show is directed by Linder, produced by Kim and EP’d by Galifianakis, Frank Schema and Jon Kamen. Production company is RadicalMedia in association with Billios Productions.

Galifianakis’ past credits include The Hangover trilogy, Baskets and Birdman.
