This tree is on a path in my woods. To navigate the path you have to duck under this large branch, you have to bend at the hips at a 90 degree angle to even get under it. It's a real pain. I've been chopping down all the buckthorn on my property, so I've got some beefy trunks with a fork at the end that would be perfect to prop this branch up a bit higher. My question is this: would propping this branch up hurt the tree over time? Would the branch grow around the support as it grew, or would it eventually kill the branch? If it would be harmful, is there a less harmful means to raise the branch up a bit?

  1. I think the tree is some sort of maple if that is helpful.

Propping it wont hurt the tree. Why not just cut it off though?
