Netflix has dropped the official trailer for This Is a Gardening Show, and yes, Zach Galifianakis hosting a gardening series is exactly as odd as it sounds. Watch the trailer above, then read on for more on the comedy-meets-curiosity setup, who’s behind it, and when it hits the streamer.
Zach Galifianakis is trading awkward celebrity interviews for plants, soil, and a whole lot of questions in This Is a Gardening Show. The trailer makes it clear this is not a traditional gardening series. It’s weird, dryly funny, and a little scruffy in a way that feels intentional, but there also seems to be some real interest underneath the jokes.
Zach Galifianakis Brings His Own Spin to Gardening TV
Rather than pretending to be an expert, Galifianakis approaches the subject as someone genuinely trying to learn. That’s the core idea here. Per Netflix’s official synopsis, the series is a “refreshing and whimsical take” on gardening, with Galifianakis using “curiosity and self-effacing humor” as he learns alongside viewers.
The humour is very much intact, but the trailer also hints at something a little more sincere. Galifianakis says, “If I were to offer a remedy to the human condition, it would be gardening,” before adding, “And acid.”
That pretty much sums up the show’s tone. It’s silly, but not empty. Galifianakis also says, “The way we get food is so perverse right now, I think it’s worth talking about it,” suggesting the series is also interested in where food comes from and why gardening still matters.
Director Brook Linder seems to back that up, saying in a statement, “He is genuinely interested in how to grow stuff.” That real curiosity may be what keeps this from feeling like a one-note gag.
Who’s Behind This Is a Gardening Show?
The series is directed by Brook Linder and produced by Chris Kim. It comes from RadicalMedia in association with Galifianakis’ Billios Productions, with Galifianakis, Frank Scherma, and Jon Kamen serving as executive producers.
