Police allege a 40-year-old man got into a secure area of the museum, damaged glass exhibits and tried to stab a security officer with some of the glass shards.
SEATTLE — A 40-year-old man was arrested Monday night for allegedly causing more than $240,000 in damage to glass exhibits and attempting to stab a security officer with a glass shard at Chihuly Garden and Glass in Seattle Center.
Police say they responded after receiving reports that the man was damaging glass plant sculptures in a secure area of the museum. When they arrived, they found large pieces of the museum’s sculptures shattered around the area.
About 12 items were damaged or destroyed, according to a statement of probable cause.
After museum security approached the man, he allegedly threw broken glass at security guards and then attempted to stab one of the security officers multiple times, police said. None of the officers were hurt.
The man is being held in King County Jail on suspicion of burglary and assault.
The museum is open for normal operations.
