OZAUKEE COUNTY — “Let’s open our eyes wider than ever before to the power of plants,” suggests Michelle Bruhn, Forks in the Dirt founder, author, gardener, educator and local food advocate.
Bruhn will be presenting Companion Planting from the Ground Up at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 26 via Zoom. “Seeing our gardens as the social, constantly communicating ecosystems they are, helps us better care for them,” Bruhn said.
Her talk will focus on how companion planting can build healthier soil, balance pests and diseases and mitigate weeds — ultimately growing more resilient, protective and sustainable gardens. She will look at specific plants and flower powers while keeping in mind that each garden is unique and comes with its own set of gifts and challenges.
Bruhn relishes being a suburban homesteader born and raised in Minnesota. As the founder of Forks in the Dirt, an information hub for garden and farm-to-table living, she helps people grow their own, know their farmer and cook real food year-round. Her passion is helping folks “dig their food.” Her biggest accomplishment is getting her kids to love real food, insects, and the perfect green bean as much as she does. She lives with her boys, handy husband and pets just north of St. Paul, Minn.
This free virtual talk is sponsored by Ozaukee Master Gardeners. It will not be recorded so please plan accordingly. Registration is required. Visit www.ozaukeemastergardeners.org to register.
