Hi all, hoping to get some advice on my plan for my first terrarium/paludarium.
Attached is a basic diagram of a fish tank I will be using. The only measurement missing is the height, which is approximately 360mm. The 16 litres of water in the aquarium is based on the water level coming up 170mm.
My plan is to have a "terrarium space" and "aquarium space". However, unlike several of the paludariums I've seen so far, my plan is to use a "hard" water proof barrier between the 2 spaces, made of aquarium expanding foam and aquarium sealant around the edges. While the foam is curing, I will place rocks in it to create a natural looking barrier.
My thinking was this would make it easier to manage the terrarium spaces substrate, preventing it from getting flooded. The terrarium space would then have it's own substrate and drainage layer as in a normal terrarium build.
For some reason, I feel that keeping the 2 spaces completely separate, rather than having 1 single drainage layer shared between the two spaces, feel cleaner. However, I could be wrong in thinking that, so hoping to get some advice.

I’m also worried that I’m not leaving much room for the terrarium space, but I wanted to be sure I had enough water to potentially have something like a Betta fish and some shrimp in there.
