Tomatoes are one of the most important crops we grow on our homestead. ***Vego Potting Bench Link: https://glnk.io/vzw5/90b
They feed us fresh all summer and help keep our pantry stocked through the winter with bottled tomatoes, sauces, and sun-dried tomatoes. But choosing the right varieties makes a huge difference in both flavor and production.
In this video, I’m sharing the tomato varieties I grow every single year because they consistently earn their space in my garden. Some are incredible heirlooms known for their rich flavor and unique colors, while others are reliable producers that help us preserve food for the months ahead.
I’ll also show you how I start tomato seeds in the greenhouse, how I up-pot seedlings for stronger plants, and share a few simple tips that help tomatoes produce better and give higher yields.
Whether you grow tomatoes for fresh eating, preserving, or simply incredible flavor, these varieties have proven themselves year after year in my garden.

What is YOUR favorite tomato you grow? Is it an heirloom tomato? A tomato for preserving? Do you grow more for fresh eating or canning?
Best gardening channel on YouTube!
My favorite heirloom tomato is mortgagelifter !!
Hi Ali! I live local to you and was wondering if you've tried Phoenix variety? I'm trying them this year and looking forward to getting them in the ground! 😉
We are trying two storage tomatoes this year Hanging Prince and Long Keeper. We love preserving but there is nothing like a fresh tomato. I am in the UK so I haven't heard of some of the varieties that you mentioned, but I will have a look to see if they are available here.
I like Early Girl. It was my favorite to grow every year when I use to preserve all summer long. miss those days of preserving.
🙋♀️🙏🌺Thank you Ali: so much useful information packed into a 19 minute video: you're so helpful in gardening tips and tricks, God bless and keep you, your family, and your friends, according to the Holy Word Of God, Psalm 91, Hallelujah Amen
I CAME TO YOUR PLACE yesterday AND BOUGHT SOME STUFF I met your DAUGHTER. She was so sweet to me and my husband I FOUND YOU ON YOUTUBE THIS YEAR. AND I DID NOT KNOW THAT YOU HAD A PLACE TO BUY THINGS. I WISH I HAD KNOWN ABOUT YOU YEARS AGO BUT I’M GLAD I FOUND YOU. THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR HARD WORK.
I do grow and love Thorburn's Terra Cotta and Japanese Black Trifele, but I also love Carbon, whicch was the most productive tomato last year. I believe it was developed from Cherokee Purple. Lucid Gem was also a good and tasty variety that I grew. I will have to try San Marzano, as Roma did not do well for me. Lastly, I am growing Gardener's Delight once again this year. It was the first tomato I grew but I got seduced by all of the beautiful and tasty new varieties and haven't grown it for a while. It is a large cherry, very productive and apparently one of the varieties favored by English gardeners.
My favorite isn't a heirloom but it sure is sweet. The Sungold Cherry Tomato may be small but it packs a sweet punch and is great for a snack or ten.
🙋♀️🙏🌺I especially enjoyed you teaching your viewing community on how to plant 🪴 the tomatoes 🍅 for your zone as well as learning about the removal of the lower leaves 🍃 to increase the root system from the stems nodules, but for other zones to trench and set the tomato 🍅 plant horizontal while planting and the tomato plant will grow upwards and straighten itself out. 🤯 Just blows my mind learning new gardening tidbits from you, so I too can share. ❤ God bless
Yay!! I love when your videos pop up!! My favorite! And, I completely agree with San Marzano…It's the best!
Have you tried Captain Lucky?
I tried San Marzano and they froze before it got alot of production out of them. I need to stick to determinate tomatoes in my zone 4 garden.
Hi ali. Thanks for giving us ur faves. You said we can grow tomatoes in containers. I have grow bags. What size grow bag should I use for an indeterminant as well as a determinant?
I love how tidy your work area is. What is on the ground in this area? The terra cotta color is nice looking and you have no weeds there!
San Marzano is one of my all time favorites. Unfortunately I haven't found a supplier of seeds since moving to Bulgaria.
Every year I grow Sart Roloise, Mortgage Lifter, Brandywine, and Cherokee Purple. Last season, Golden King of Siberia and Moneymaker did incredibly well for me. Every year I sow new varieties and choose from of these, those that grow and yield the best. I grow them all in a greenhouse. Bread and Salt It's delicious, although I didn't have a large harvest from it.
Video yang bagus, tentang bermacam macam jenis tomat…Terimakasih atas infonya sahabat ❤👍👍
Dr. Wyche and Black Krim are highly prolific for me. I use them for sauce and fresh eating.
San Marzano and Early Girl are two greats in my Southeast zone 8a/8b
Hello, you were talking about your tomatoes in your greenhouse and I know tomato plants need to be pollinated so how do you pollinate your tomatoes in your greenhouse without any type of pollination from outside?? Joe
Great video, as always ❤️❤️❤️ I’d love to have a few more videos about your ducks, if possible…
Such great information. Thank you. We always like the Beefstake, purple Cherokee. Grew some pineapple tomatoes last year. They were huge but not much flavor. Do you have a favorite cherry tomato?
Love the layout of your garden! I have a garden sink too.
