The first set of leaves near the base looks fine, but the second set has dry, crusty discoloration with texture on the back. Can anyone tell me what’s going on? The plant itself seems to be doing well since it’s pushing out a new leaf. Any help and insights are appreciated❤️

I don’t really know enough to help… sorry. But I can see what you mean 😢 I wanted to tell you that I like your little trellis. I think I bought the same ones for the smaller ones I have on order. 😎

Hoyas in general are rather unattractive for pests, most likely due to their thick leaves. This though looks like they might have had some pests when the leaves were still young and softer. Do you know if the damage just appeared on these leaves or have they been like that since growing to their full size? I once had similar traces of damage on a Hoya Australis that turned out to be thrips. Some leaves managed to grow thicker and had weird damage patterns. Maybe check the new leaf that’s coming for any (tiny) pests.

Hmmm, I’d love to see what the first set of leaves look like that you say are fine – just to compare. Anyway my first reaction is pests. And I hate to say it but maybe thrips – the streaking and speckles make me say that 😑. They burrow into the leaves so sometimes you don’t see anything except the damage. But sometimes the thicker leaf plants like kerrii get some funky spots and discolorations which aren’t anything troublesome. Three years ago mine got a black splotch that didn’t get bigger and never went away. 🤷‍♀️

Sometimes the thrips or mites are difficult to see. You don’t know they’re there until you see the damage. A magnifying glass is needed or strong reading glasses 🤓. some people use a microscope 🔬
