Alan Titchmarsh, 76, is an experienced gardener and radio and television presenter who has been a recognisable presence on British screens for many years. Titchmarsh began his radio career as the host of the gardening programme House in a Garden on BBC Radio 2.
He later appeared on the BBC TV show Nationwide as a horticulture specialist before presenting the BBC’s coverage of the Chelsea Flower Show in 1983.
In 1996, Titchmarsh assumed the role of the host of the BBC’s Gardeners’ World, with the programme even being filmed in his own garden. He then moved on to hosting the BBC One TV series Ground Force alongside presenters Charlie Dimmock and Tommy Walsh.
Beyond gardening, Titchmarsh has authored several fiction books, with his first published by Simon & Schuster in 1998.
Originally from Ilkley, West Riding of Yorkshire, Titchmarsh now divides his time between Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, reports the Express.
He and his wife Alison moved to a Grade II-listed Georgian Hampshire farmhouse in 2002. The property extends across four acres of land, featuring 10 mini waterfalls, a substantial greenhouse, a shed and an abundance of verdant greenery.
However, in 2025, Alan spoke to Country Life about putting the stunning house in Alton, Hampshire, on the market. The property is currently on the market with Savills for a guide price of £3.5 million.

It boasts five bedrooms, three living rooms and three bathrooms and is described as having been “sympathetically extended and updated over the years to create a modern family home whilst retaining original features such as oak beams and sash windows.”
After painstakingly renovating the house and, naturally, the expansive gardens, Alan told Country Life that he and his wife are selling up and downsizing to another home in Hampshire.
He explained that this move is to be closer to their daughters and grandchildren, and that he believes he has another garden project within him.
Alton in Hampshire, where Alan’s former home is located, is a market town rich in history, having been recorded in the Domesday Survey of 1086.
The vibrant town is reputed to be one of Hampshire’s friendliest and was once home to the renowned novelist Jane Austen.

The town, previously acknowledged by Muddy Stilettos as one of the top places to live in the UK, is also celebrated for its unspoiled natural beauty, tranquil countryside, and bustling shops, restaurants, and pubs.
Muddy Stilettos described the town as “pretty and commutable”, filled with “chocolate box thatched cottages, barn conversions, Victorian and Edwardian houses and contemporary new builds”.
Titchmarsh also owns a coastal property near Cowes on the Isle of Wight, where he spends approximately a third of his time.
In Alton, Hampshire, properties achieved an average value of £396,219 throughout the past year, according to Rightmove, with semi-detached homes comprising the bulk of transactions in Alton over the last year, commanding an average price of £414,601.
