SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Now that most of the snow has melted away, many of us are looking to go outside to start spring planting.
Even though most of the snow disappeared this week, it’s still too early to be out in the garden. Temperatures are warming up and the snow continues to melt away. While spring is just a week away, it’s still too early to do any outdoor gardening.
The Old Farmer’s Almanac has released its ‘Last Frost Date’ map
It is, however, a good time to start planning your garden. You can also start planting things inside that you can put out in your garden when it gets warmer.
Sixteen Acres Garden Center Store Manager Nalini Benoit told 22News, “Bulbs, summer bulbs we just got those in, great variety. Start them now inside in a pot and just take care of them until the weathers better, you’ll be happy because they need that extra time before they bloom in mid-summer, late summer.”
At Sixteen Acres Garden in Springfield, they have everything you need to get started, including heating mats, grow lights and quite a variety of seeds. If you’re looking to add some color, they do have pansies available. They do well in colder temperatures, but if it does get really cold, you should still bring them inside or cover them up.

It is advised to really hold off on planting anything in your garden until April.
