Is that a root coming out of the dark knot? It could be that pup is trying to grow its own roots. That usually a sign of a heathy plant. Not super simple to propagate, a moon cactus doesnt have chlorophyll, so it needs to be grafted onto a succulent base. But there are videos showing you how.
If thats not a root, is the dsrk spot soft ? Soft is rot, which means things are too wet. The rot needs to be cut away and things need to dry out.
If its hard could be a scab, if there was physical damage.
It could also be scsle, an insect that attaches itself and sucks the juices out. It will die and fall off if you touch it with a qtip dipped in alcohol. Insecticidal soap should take care of eggs and hatchlings, read the instructions.

Not sure what the black knot is, but removing the big red part would be better for the plant overall.
