So I’ve had this little guy for about a year now. It’s pretty obvious that he wants something from me due to the extreme amount of aerial roots he has thrown out. Looks like he’s growing on top of a tumbleweed lol. His leaves are tight and plump, he’s not root bound, and seems overall happy otherwise. Currently in a 2” nursery pot. My soil mix is about 60/40 perlite/MG cactus&succulent potting mix (I go through and remove large bits of twigs and peat moss before mixing) and I use a thin layer of stone for top dressing to help with fungus gnat control (this hasn’t caused any issues with excess moisture for me but my home is extremely dry, I keep a fan going in their room and my pots are all small). I’m in NE Ohio so all of my plants are inside under grow lights with some supplemental filtered light from a north facing window. Does anybody have any ideas what this little guy wants?

Either the current root system is no longer alive and it is trying to get water through air roots or it has outlived its pot and needs more room now.

Oh, I have a few of these. They definitely like to be in a pot a bit bigger than themselves and stagnate if rootbound. I will be entirely honest, I’m not sure why it is throwing out so many air roots but the other comment seems logical. I would definitely give it a bigger pot, and in the process of replanting, you might see something wrong with the in-ground roots.

They grow quickly when there is tons of space to expand.

It looks quite healthy! Unless you are under-watering it regularly (doesn’t look like it now). I would say to not worry too much about it. They can grow aerial roots for extra support

I have totally healthy plants do this, I suspect it’s the higher humidity where I live that encourages these roots to develop
