I hired a company to make a bunch of timber steps in my back yard. I checked the first 10 steps and they looked good, but I just went out (they haven't filled them yet) and midway they get super sloped and uncomfortable to walk on – the quality of work just gets bad near the top. I think adding a few steps and better leveling would have corrected this, but I don't know how to fix it now. The owner of the company told me to tell his guy today, but didn't have any solutions or apologies. Any advice?

Withhold pay until you’re happy. Tell the owner what he said and say I’m unsatisfied with the work and if it continues as it currently is I’ll be withholding pay
Plus it’s just on dirt in a slope with no drainage. Zero gravel. That’s gonna wash right out as soon as it rains. Do not pay. I would consult an attorney as well.
Really shouldn’t be a huge deal to fix how far from the top does it get wonky
There are posts….right?
Having built a few of these i can say that this is absolutely dog shit and completely wrong
Are they just laying bare on the dirt? The channel they dug into the slope before laying the timbers is going to be where all the rain goes. Every rainstorm, that channel full of steps will be where the rainwater goes to run down the hill. Over time it will erode all that loose unprepared soil and the steps will fail. They basically dug a riverbed into your hill and added some wood.
