The Lane County Home and Garden Show is underway at the Lane Events Center in Eugene, drawing tens of thousands with exhibitions, seminars, and guest speakers, and will continue through Sunday.

EUGENE, Ore. – The Lane County Home and Garden Show is drawing tens of thousands to the Lane Events Center in downtown Eugene. The event features exhibitions from local businesses alongside guest speakers focused on landscaping and home improvement.

Organizers have arranged roughly 50 seminars, providing attendees with valuable home improvement advice.

“We’ve got remodelers speaking about kitchen design, kitchen remodeling, bathroom remodeling, whole house, ADUs, whatever you might have on the slate for your home,” said Karen Ramus, the show director.

Ramus says the show is a critical event for local businesses, with exhibitions set up throughout the fairgrounds.

“We have small mom-and-pop businesses in our community. And they get a lot of the year’s business out of these shows,” said Ramus. “It’s really the essence of America, the entrepreneurial spirit.”

The event typically attracts about 30,000 people from across the state, offering many different home improvement ideas.

One popular trend gaining traction is the “she-shed,” small backyard sheds often designed for use by women. Erika Kotite, an author on the subject, will host educational seminars throughout the weekend.

“She-sheds are relatively easy, they’re a great way to add extra room to your house without remodeling or adding on,”  said Kotite. “But they do come with, you know, rules and regulations and different things that work better than others. So I just spent these years helping women achieve their dreams.”

Another guest speaker, Joel Karsten, who pioneered the straw bale gardening method, made the trip from Minnesota to Eugene to speak at the show for the second time.

“I get people hooked,” said Karsten. “You know, they don’t think, ‘ah, I’m not much of a gardener.’ I say, just try a couple bales. And then I talk to them a couple years later, they’re like, ‘oh my gosh, I got a big garden now, all in straw bales.’”

The Lane County Home and Garden Show continues through Sunday at the Lane Events Center. Admission is $5 or free with a donation of three cans of food for Food for Lane County.
