    🤦🏼‍♂️ way to go Oregon.

  2. This is totally junk legislation meant to divide.

You can smoke as much crack and stab as may people as you want but if you catch a fish or shoot a deer you can suck it.

Can’t see that making a ballot, and definitely can’t see it getting votes if it does.

    At least it’s just “proposed”.

  6. ?!? I’m curious what the proposed ballot language says … these people want to eat, right? How are they banning livestock?

PETA, I get. Used to be a vegan myself. But I have trouble imagining half of a state voting to ban livestock and hunting. Our small farm’s animals are treated a billion times better than those at a factory farm. So it’s cool to import pork from some disgusting operation out in a Carolina or something but dude better not have a couple of pigs on his homestead?!

On the other hand, people are free to propose any craziness they want. Legislative reps can even write a bill mandating things that don’t exist. Out here in Ohio, some rep put forth a bill that mandates doctors re-implant ectopic pregnancies. No such procedure. Bill got tabled and disappeared at the end of the session. The fact this group can get so much money for their cause says a lot about American politics.

It’s not intended to pass. It’s meant to shift the Overton window.

Don’t these people have better things to do?

This is NEVER going to pass, even if they **do** manage to get it on the ballot.

Hunters and fishermen in Oregon aught to be able to out fund raise these people. Oregon has some of the best hunting and fishing in the country. There are old men who retired and moved to Oregon just for the salmon fishing.

    Great idea. /s

Fun fact, the Migratory Bird Treaty Act which was established in 1918 was championed by hunters and sportsmen. They realized that certain types of birds were becoming harder and harder to find because commercial operators were over harvesting to make women’s clothing.

    We never learn our lessons.

A thing to keep in mind is even if you don’t live in Oregon, if this ever passes it will likely spread to other states like Colorado, California, Washington, etc.

Fuck these assholes who pick stupid fights and incite division and animosity! These self-important douches are as much to blame for what’s happening in the world as every voter they drove into the arms of the far right with their culture war.

This is literally just PETA and affiliated organizations hitting a signature threshold. It has zero chance of making any legislative process and isn’t really worth as much discussion as it’s getting.

It’s a proposed ballot measure, not a bill proposed by any sitting politician.

Legislation like this exists solely to drive right-wing ideologues to the polls in an effort to vote against some big bad legislation that no one wants. This is literally funded by a guy in Russia.

  15. I would read the proposed legislation before letting FOX News shape my opinion. I’m not saying it is good legislation, but this may be yellow journalism, meant to stoke outrage. Just down the road from my housein rural Florida, people were running an illegal slaughter house; they killed a race horse and sold its meat. They were killing all manner of animals very inhumainly. It was being run very unprofessionally, the owners skipped town and left hundreds of starving animals living extremely unsanitary conditions. We actually responded to the county and took in some of the animals. Sometimes rules are good.
