I tried winter sowing for the first time this year, and the species I was most nervous about was Ceanothus americanus. The seeds require scarification and apparently it can be difficult to get them to germinate. We've also had an early spring in GA so they only got about 60 days of cold stratification which is on the very low end of the recommended 60-90 days.

I am so pleased that they've started to germinate! I have five little seedlings so far. I'm so excited to see them grow and get them planted in my yard when they're big enough. I figured you guys would understand my enthusiasm!

i’d put some sort of mesh over those just to prevent any of the soon-to-be-dropping elm samaras from getting in and causing problems. i say this because elm seedlings are a very similar color and shape to those
