Repurposing Bookshelves Into Garden Vessels for $15 🌱 | Wacky Wonderful Wednesday
In today’s wacky, wonderful Wednesday video, I share how I repurposed two thrifted bookshelves into garden vessels for just $15 — cheaper than building from scratch! I found them at Habitat for Humanity and I’m painting them sage green for my garden.
I also take you along as I make breakfast, go for a peaceful morning walk, and talk about what gardening is teaching me — patience, creativity, and letting life be an experiment.
This garden project is part DIY, part thrifted treasure, and part soul therapy. If you love creative gardening, repurposing furniture, slow mornings, B-roll walks, and real-life experiments, you’re in the right place.
Thanks for being here 🤍

Tracie!! What a brilliant idea! And those glass doors are lovely! How fun is your yard—can’t wait to see everything when it’s all done. The headboard idea is also brilliant. ❤
Wild Wednesday I LOVE it! Sorry, motorcycle man wasn’t feeling well. I believe sometimes God slows us down to get our attention and try to speak to us. 😊❤
I agree, Tracie, your view count to comment count is a good ratio, and it’s not the quantity but the quality!!!❤❤❤
About 10 years ago when I was going through a rough patch in my life, I used to always walk in the rain, that way no one could see my tears. I wish I saved that poem.❤
Oh Tracie I hope you reach your goal. When it happens, it will be that much sweeter. We will all be celebrating with you!!! 😊❤Liz
That would be so fun if you did one of her weekly meal plans! I literally just made the egg burritos (we've done this three weeks in a row for our lunches!), I'd never made eggs like that before and I'm hooked. My favorite recipes so far are the sweet and spicy tofu and broccoli, and the curry with pork and scallions and rice noodles. YUM. I'm so glad Rich is feeling better, I was thinking about you two over the weekend. (I have to run, but I'll come back and finish the video later! Thanks for the mention, Tracie xoxo)
That breakfast burrito looks AMAZING! Seeing all your green plants is making me salivate! I can't wait for spring! 2 and a half more months! I think what you are using for the trellis for your sugar snap peas is so cool!!!!!! Very rustic! And the headboard!!!!!!! So cool!
We've got this old broken wheel barrow that we were thinking of using as a rain collector, but I'm really smitten with your bathtub planter, and think that might be a better use for the wheelbarrow… (I said I had ro run, but I needed to watch just a few more minutes 😉 )
Good finds for your garden!
Yes, it's so easy to document our lives these days. I forgot to tell you, my Dad used to film us as children, with a Super 8 movie camera on 35mm, and we'd have movie nights when he got the film back. Those films are on DVD, and I need to get them converted digitally so I can upload them to YouTube for our private viewing.
I made your eggs with Greek yoghurt and cheese the other day, and it was delicious.
That recipe book looks so good.
When I lived alone at my house before I met Craig, I used bookcases for vegetables. Your garden is going to be great! I can't wait to watch it.

You're so close to monetisation. Awesome!
💛🙏
I believe you will meet your goal of monetization this year!
Fun video! I came for the burrito but stayed for the garden. 😂 We are close. I am hoping to hit that goal too. I definitely see it happening soon. You're so close in the grand scheme of things. Vlogging camera right around the corner.
Such cool artistic ideas! Cannot wait to watch the garden grow ❤
Nice job, you wore me out on this video, whooo you are gonna be busy. Nice job. Can’t wait to see things grow and watch you grow in planting, healthy eating and sharing your stories with us. Love that Mannequin ❤
hi Tracie!❤❤
Very nice garden. 🌺🙂🌹 Glad to see you getting closer to achieving your YouTube monetization goal. Have a good one❣️👍❤️😍❤️
Loving your new garden!🌱 Also that breakfast burrito looked delicious!
Hearing about the weather in California, rains, snow and avalanches. The rain is the best for gardens. We still have a long way to go before we can be putting our garden together, but we are eagerly looking forward to it. It was Karen's birthday today so I went out and bought her a kitchen sink, not very romantic for a birthday present, but Karen is in love with it. Just got to get it plumbed in. Tracie, do you have a GoPro camera by chance? They do some awesome timelapse as well as good videos. We actually had a couple flakes this morning, Willow enjoyed them. Always great to see you Tracie. Tee
This is such great advice! I almost stopped making videos because once the pour painting craze died down my channel got a lot quieter. But I started documenting fun stuff we do as a family. It’s so much fun looking back on all the good times we’ve had so far! I’ve stopped thinking about views (not completely because like you say it’s hard not to) and started thinking about what I want to see later. We just went on a hike today and now I’m chillin’ watching your video. ❤ Edit: Wooow, I love your garden!
I love the idea of repurposing, what a great price on those two items.
I enjoyed this video very much. That’s a lot of rain! ☔️
I’m sorry you didn’t get to go on your trip. But you had some fun anyway it seems!
The garden is looking like it will be lovely.
So cool having documentation of our lives. I keep thinking about how I can get some of my pictures off my phone and into an album or something.
I watched this early today but I couldn’t comment because I had an eye appointment and they put those drops in that expand your pupils…long story short, I couldn’t see to type!
Great hanging out with you. Do you know I’ve never watched Pretty in Pink?!? I know! Where have I been? Probably was cleaning a chicken coop or babysitting my 5 brothers and sisters 🤣🤦🏼♀️
Have a wonderful week Tracie, see you soon.
You could also do your walks on your treadmill when the weather is bad……not as good of a view, but would keep you in check😍
Love your advice on making memories and legacy….. Tracie it’s quality over quantity and I love you being you 🫶 and now I want a burrito! 😋 I love how your garden is evolving! Cheers to transformation!!! Happy Gardening ☀️🌻🐝💛🤗
You have given me an idea! We have a shared album of Jack and Lily's life on our iPhotos app. Katie and Mark have documented their lives and shared it with us ever since they were born. I'm going to download them and stitch them together and find some music to put on it!
We got this 🙌🏼 I really love watching these, always something new to learn 😀 looking forward to see the garden grow – I bought Nasturtium seeds and I'm excited to get some tomato growing indoors. It's been cold but maybe I should have started them? We'll, you've reminded me to go do it. Also, the walk after meals, such a game changer. Absolutely adore you and let's grab that goal! (and the new camera!) ❤
Wow, you received a lot of rain!
I am happy to know Motorcycle Man is doing better.
I have know idea how to garden. So that's really interesting. It is so cool to see things grow. What a good find for the shelves. I was wondering about the varnish in them, could it affect your vegetables? Or because you're putting organic paint it will protect them?
I am happy to know you have a lot of good changes in your health that followed your new way to eat. It is very encouraging.
You say you want to buy a vlog camera, which of camera do you want to buy?
Hopefully, you'll be able to reach your goal of monetization!
I love your garden choices! It’s going to be amazing!!
You are SO far ahead of us in the garden! It snowed today…daffodils are starting to bloom, crocus too. Tulips starting to pop up. But I haven’t even done my rose pruning yet because with the weather it’s not time yet. Hollyhocks and poppies are a long way off.
I can’t WAIT to watch your garden grow, Tracie!
The book shelf was only $5!! Holy smokes! What a fabulous deal!
I love your old videos, they are very creative. You have a lot of experience – vimeo, instagram, blogs – how do you feel about all those now being on Youtube? I’ve had my channel for years just dumping there private videos for my family – so that they can see something from my life in California.. now it’s a full time job 😅 – well next to painting.
Your garden will be awesome, I think since you are closer to the ocean you’ll have better results than us in the desert – most of the plants were eaten by pests..
we also make burritos here but to find pinto beans is such a problem – and no taco sauce. I learned to cook Mexican food – not easy thing to find the right ingredients here but we are coping. Your burrito sounds yummy I had a veggie chicken chimichanga yesterday – in an air fryer 😅
wonderful video Tracie!!
RJ is definitely a mini Tracie. Your second word for the year can be transformation. I can't wait to see your meals from your new cookbook. I love watching your transplanting. I want to do up our yard this year too, but we'll see. I don't think there is lard in tortillas, so you don't have to worry. Spin, spin, spin 💕💕
Love the bookshelves to use in the garden. You can't get lumber to make garden beds for that price so that's a great use. Your peas are looking great. I am so jealous that you are starting your gardening and we got six or more inches of snow today. I'm also actually a little jealous of your walk. My friend and I went out to lunch yesterday and we went to our favorite park and did one lap bundled up with our coats and with our boots, but it was invigorating. We did one lap and we usually do four laps around the pond, but it's something!
My refrigerator is like a “best of” photo album – I need to focus on making more albums again. Thank you so much for mentioning it – reminding me again. My brother put together collections of photos from our childhood so we can print out what we like, etc. I am so grateful.
Those tortillas look amazing! My friend from Guatemala makes INCREDIBLE tortillas. Always good to walk after eating – Rich is so smart. Mmmmm. You look like you’re glowing after that bell pepper!
Short walks after eating has made a big difference for me, too.
7 (!!!) varieties of poppies!?!?!?!
I love habitat re-stores! Thrift score!!
I’m blessed to know first hand how amazing your garden is becoming (even just peeking out from inside the house!) I’m imagining the harvest!
I also will LOVE seeing you making videos from with the vlogging camera you have earned! We are ALL human and I am so happy to support you in your goals. So important to lean into community.
LOTS OF LOVE LOVE LOVE!
Hi Tracie! Not been around much recently on your Monday/Friday videos as I have been eating loads of sugary foods! I feel terribly guilty but I went through a period last year where I lost a lot of weight through grief and illness. That didn't last long! Ha ha!! You have inspired me to get out in the garden again but I have to wait until the garden gate dries out before I can open it! My channel is slowly changing to show other creative things I do apart from drawing and painting. I hope you stick around! x
