On Sunday, March 1st, the students of the Garden City Jewish Center Religious School enjoyed the annual Purim Carnival, with games, prizes, balloons and traditional hamantaschen cookies.  The activities were set up and run by congregation members, teachers, and former students.  The prize table was an exciting culmination of a fun morning.

Volunteers had to put away the games quickly, so that the hamantaschen baking activity could take place immediately after the carnival.  Run by Gail Feldman and her Sisterhood team, eager bakers rolled out the dough, and filled the cookies with fruit filling or Nutella, and then formed them into triangles. They looked and tasted delicious!

On Monday, March 2nd, 80 people enjoyed the annual Purim Pizza Party, with salad, pizza, and sautéed vegetables from the Rustica Brick Oven Café.  Costumes were worn by both young and old, and raffles were furnished by the Sisterhood.  After the meal, everyone gathered in the Sanctuary for a hilarious and silly service, and the reading of the Megillah of Esther, using noisemakers called groggers to drown out the name of the villainous Haman.

Everyone left the party with a shalach manot goody bag provided by the Sisterhood.

A special thank you to the Garden City Police Department for ensuring the safety of all participants.

The Garden City Jewish Center is a Reform Congregation where everyone is welcome – Jews of all denominations, dual-faith families, singles and students.
