Unlock the power of organic soil biology! Great soil health tips from Dan! His knowledge of soil biology, nutrients and amendments will help you understand how to have the best organic garden soil preparation possible! Make the your soil the best it can be by focusing on feeding the soil microbial biology, instead of feeding your plants. The reason this works best is because the soil microbes themselves are what actually feeds your plant’s root system through mycorrhizal symbiosis!

  2. I don't know what kind of cuts/transitions you are using, but please stop. The jerkiness is so incredibly distracting. It really takes away from your otherwise awesome content.

  3. Great advice! I decided to trellis my tomatoes this year like this.
I looked all over for the tomato plastic clamps.
No one knew what I really needed?

    So I was
Looking around and found this plastic hooks you get at the $ store. I had an abundance left over I have been using them 😊

  4. do you use pressure treated lumber in your garden.? I am going in circles to figure out safest. I have a small in ground garden but want to add a couple raised beds. I read the new copper pressure treated only leaches an inch from wood. but they say galvenized is safe, yet they have zinc and some aluminum. Whats your opinions? I love the looks of the wood

  5. Since tomatoes ripen off the vine, how does the plant use all its energy to ripen tomatoes? I'm guessing that before ripening the tomato has to reach a certain size, so presumably the energy would be for all tomatoes to reach size.

  6. DO NOT REMOVE THE SO-CALLED "SUCKERS", unless you are a sucker! The "suckers" turn into main stems, and only main stems produce tomatoes! The only reason you might want to remove some, or all the suckers, is so you can grow a larger variety of tomatoes in a small area, but in the end you have less tomatoes. I let them grow and top the indeterminate varieties so they will put the energy into the fruit that grows on ALL THE SUCKERS!

  7. Do you guys ever get strong storms? A string trellis always fails for me as the strong winds destroy the entire crop. I have to use a wood trellis system supported with 2X4's.
Then I have to use Velcro tape and tape the plants to the trellis.

  8. all those things as bamboo sticks , those clips , many things are useless , you can grow very nice tomatoes without spending money for those useless materials

  9. Absolutely stunning set up. I have a small semi enclosed raised garden in south Florida and was wondering how I was going to fit all the different tomato varieties that I started inside for my fall garden. Your video gave me all the information I needed to apply your technique in my space. What stood out the most to me was your gardening/ farming esthetic. I enjoy organization, symmetry and beauty in my garden so I’m definitely impressed at how beautiful your farm is!!!

    Thank you for sharing!!!

  10. Great design. But there is a mistake guys. Never connect your twine to your plant. Every time the wind pulls on the string it will pull on your plant and root as well.

  11. I attempted to do string trellising last year but the string wasn't strong enough with the big beefsteaks. Started stretching and pulling everything over. Moved to a cattle panel system this season.

  12. I could not find the 3D model of this trellis system that you had mentioned in the video that you would make for us and list it. Am I missing something? It's possible that I just didn't look in the correct location. I think I can build it by what you've explained but I'd love to have the 3d model so that I don't mess anything up. Thank you for all your wonderful lessons! I will be trying to implement all your information as best as I can. I'm a 3rd year gardener and I've become addicted to growing tomatoes and cucumbers.

  13. I can’t find that string when I search insulation string. Any suggestions. I want to get the right stuff so it doesn’t come falling down when string rots.

  14. Hubby just drilled the holes for the 4×6 poles I’m so exited to get started early THANK YOU for the trellising suggestion

  15. Do you practice crop rotation? Or do you plant the tomatoes (and your other vegetables) in the same spot every year? Great vid!

  16. At 3:05 , how did you identify that as a new leader and not that the middle one was a sucker. I have trouble identifying the difference at that stage.
Also, what about leaders that grow from trusses? Thanks

  17. Do you not rotate location, growing in the same place year after year? Are you growing other crops into that location, either before and/or after tomatoes? I do much the same, but rotate locations to other beds. Using less stout materials does make it easy to do so. And, I use premade greenhouse type trellis/reels, they are easy and cheap. Thank you for the good details!

  18. Are these clips meant to be reused, or do they just get thrown away?
Is cleaning up or removing these clips a major pain point during harvest?

  19. Ive been doing very similar for 20 years but use 2 hemp strings knotted together every 6-8 inch’s then tread the plants through. It’s a lot less trouble then those clips and cost nothing

  20. I watched the jersey guy with his single string trellis, and then yours and pop( I’m your age) you do a better job! I was gonna buy some of your seeds, but I’m not a big huge tomato fan. I like smaller than baseball bigger than tennis than a ping-pong ball. And I am in Georgia.
Thank you for the tips. I didn’t check out where you were from but you look kind of like Central Pennsylvania and I’m originally from York.
