Residents looking to make the most of their upcoming summer garden harvest can learn new preserving skills at a pair of workshops at the Museum.
The sessions, organized through the City of Humboldt’s Cultural Services department, will focus on pickling and jam making and are open to anyone interested in learning the basics of food preservation.
Marie Saretsky will lead the workshops, beginning with a session on pickling on March 12 at 7 p.m., followed by a jam-making workshop on March 19. Both events are free to attend and require no previous experience.

Jennifer Fitzpatrick, director of cultural services, says the workshops are meant to help people prepare for the growing season ahead.
“As we wait for winter to end and think about the wonderful summer bounty from our gardens, let’s talk about what you’re going to do with it,” Fitzpatrick said. “Marie Saretsky will be joining us on March 12th at 7 p.m. to talk about pickling and then on March 19th to talk about jam making. No experience is required and it’s free and everyone is welcome.”

Organizers say the workshops are intended to introduce participants to simple methods of preserving fruits and vegetables, helping gardeners extend the life of their harvest and enjoy homemade products throughout the year.
Community members interested in attending are encouraged to drop in at the Museum on either evening to learn the fundamentals of pickling and jam making.
