A new job opportunity has opened in Cornwall that could play a key role in shaping local food production and community growing in the Newquay area.

Urban Biodiversity CIC is currently recruiting a Market Garden Development Lead to help expand the success of its veg bag scheme, Grown by Newquay Orchard, and support the organisation’s wider environmental and social mission.

The permanent role offers a salary between £28,000 and £30,000 and is based across two locations in Cornwall: Fentenfenna Farm in Ruthvoes and Newquay Community Orchard.

Building on the Success of the Veg Bag Scheme

According to the organisation, the successful applicant will help develop and grow the market garden enterprise while supporting the community focused work already underway.

The role includes responsibility for year round crop production, enterprise development and leadership across the two sites.

Key responsibilities include:

Leading a team of growers, volunteers and students

Overseeing crop planning, production and site management

Participating in Cornwall’s community supported agriculture network

Growing the customer base for veg bags and local hospitality businesses

Building relationships with partners, producers and the wider community

The position combines practical growing work with strategic development.

Urban Biodiversity CIC says the role offers the chance to shape a regenerative, community supported agriculture social business while working within an organisation focused on environmental and social impact.

What They Are Looking For

The organisation says it is looking for someone with strong knowledge of organic, agro ecological or regenerative growing practices, along with experience leading a market garden enterprise.

Applicants are also expected to have experience in areas such as budgeting, sales and customer relationships, as well as a passion for making a positive difference.

A degree level qualification in horticulture is also listed as a requirement.
