I’m assuming there’s no hope for these poor tubers? My first attempt at storing tubers. A harsh winter and most likely unfavorable over wintering conditions led to a complete loss of my dahlias. Is it worth trying to see if any of these sprout?

This is an automatic reminder regarding r/dahlias Rule 3:

When reasonable*, posters should make a good-faith effort to identify which variety/varieties are shown in their photo(s). If you don’t know for certain, please say so. Someone will usually know!

*Common-sense exceptions to this rule will be honored, such as if the photo does not contain a blossom, or if your photo contains large volumes (such as in wide field shots).

If you’ve already done this, thank you! No further action required.

If not, please add a reply to this comment and confirm if you know the name of your dahlia variety/varieties shown in the photo(s). Alternately, if you’re uncertain of the variety name(s), it’s ok to say that, too.

Are the tubers still firm? If it’s surface mold and the tubers are still firm they’ll probably sprout just fine.

Do you know what temp they were stored at? If it’s just surface mold, they should be totally fine. It does look like there is some liquid at the bottom of the container in pic 1, which looks like the liquid that comes from tubers that have frozen then thawed. Give them a squeeze and see if they are firm, and if you’re not sure, you can cut a little off of the root end to check the inside.

If they’re still firm, I never throw them out. I plant them in separate pots and half the time they’re perfectly fine

They are fine just clean off the mold and wait for sprouts to appear
