This year Seedy Saturday was the place to be with a bumper crop of seeds, information, gardening tips and fun for the kids with the communities greenest thumbs!

Seedy Saturday is an annual event encouraging local seed exchanging and sharing education about seed saving, environmentally responsible gardening practice and learning about gardening in Kimberley.

The library of Lindsay Park Elementary School was transformed with potting stations and tables ladened with activities, free seeds, swag and take home handout to keep us on the latest information for local growing.

Chris Vassallo, the man that started the seed share, stopped by from New South Wales Australia to see the action and commented:

“It is great to see so many effort put into making sure everyone has access to growing their own food. Back home we have our extra seeds outside the Post Office along with any extra produce or jam jars.”

Wildsight, Top Crop, KEGG, Nupqu Native Plants and the Columbian Basin Alliance for Literacy were all hands on deck connecting with stories about growing in the area, how to deal with gardening pests and even creating origami flowers for the smaller helpers.

If anyone would like more information about local growing be sure to connect with Ashley Lortscher, Food Program Coordinator at Wildsight, kimcrangarden@wildsight.ca and the Seed Library on display at the Kimberley Public Library (thank you KEGG!) so be sure to stop in and get growing
