Hey! New to this sub, but I've been attempting to build a retaining wall in my back yard and moving a LOT of dirt to I can have some more usable space. I didn't do any research prior to starting but now I'm beginning to realize that drainage can be a real issue. Judging by these pictures? What do you recommend I do? I don't want to have to worry about this wall failing. The fourth pic is my quick sketch of my general plan for the yard. I want to make two flat tiers of usable space.

Ag Line behind the wall, topped and covered with aggregate.

The dirt will push that wall over. It needs to have something to anchor it in place.

Look up how a retaining walls works. Needs drainage behind the wall.

There should be a compacted gravel base for the bottom of the wall and drain rock behind the wall.

To be honest, this is already so bad I recommend you quitting and hiring someone to do this. Be lucky to get this to last a year. I don’t lightly tell ppl to quit either – I’m a huge advocate for research and try try again kinda thing lol.

You should have spent a minute on Google before you started this, you might be kicking yourself after you do.
It’s not a big wall, but looks like you have neighbors drainage behind you, so you really should have a decent drainage pocket and regular grates for release across it.
