Awesome short and timely info! I'm in NE Tennessee and probably going to work in garden this weekend. Thank you!
Watch out for bone meal if you have dogs or neighborhood dogs they’ll never stop eating dirt
I usually add vermimiculite and perlite when mixing growing soil for my raised beds, along with manure and potting soil. Your thoughts?
Did you decide not to move to Florida?
Hello. I was waiting for you to tell us WHAT that load of 'compost' was made of? & how much did you pay for a yard?
Always ASK what the garden center 'compost' is made of! Ask, if they did a soil test on it. What is the PH?
Most garden centers around me are total rip-offs! They take tree company waste & pallets, & grind them up. Limbs leaves & logs. Then they add horse, cow & chicken manure, uncomposed animal stall droppings that are filled with hay & grass seeds. Then they add the black die to make everything LOOK DARK, RICH & COMPOSTED! Hec,,,, even the last two bags of MIRACLE GARDEN SOIL was nothing but chopped up wood,,, & it had all kinds of weeds popping up in it!
I say,,, put 3 or 4, 55gal barrels in each corner of your garden & make your own 'compost'. Every spring, I tip my barrels over & shovel out wheel burrows full of dark rich totally broken down ORGANIC fill material! Add triple 10 & some lime.
Who's 'WE' – Got a mouse in your pocket? LOL
Is this mulch Made from manure and and fertilizer or is it organic ? I don't like eating fertilizer in my foods😍
There's no reputable mulch yard anywhere near where I live!
The reason that a compost is hot or steaming is because it has not completely finished decomposing!
Thanks! I appreciate the long-form videos with all the how-to guides. Great tips and advice. Definitely teach a man "how to fish". Peace and blessings and lots of happy gardening!
thank you MG!!!!
You are awesome. THANK YOU
dont' buy any of that stuff. get free load of leaves in the fall by calling companies that rake them up. they will dump it for free and the huge 10 yard pile they dump will be about 4 yards in a year, after it has decomposed and it nice black soil/compost for your garden. its likely what's the main component of what you are buying.
I don’t have a mulch yard near me so what would be the best compost to use ?
Excellent video! Great narration!
So are the beds filled with just compost? I heard you mention top soil. If that is the case, what is the ratio of the blend.
Is bonemeal good for strawberries?
That compost looks good. The compost we can buy in southern Illinois is full of plastic and pieces of glass and other trash.
You are doing fine will take your advice ❤
Just got a load of 7 yards of compost. I have thick cardboard around my fruit trees as weed barrier, can I just dump the compost on top of the cardboard?
My soil is very compacted. Can I throw some sand in as well?

I'm in north Alabama and my peach trees just broke bud and now is flowering for almost a week now
Great advice-thank you! Do you fertilize your fig trees the same way?
You are correct! Explaining WHY will make it stick in your head. I worked in management for Hardee's, and they were very specific that mustard went on the bun first, then the ketchup, because the mustard would not soak into the bun and would keep the ketchup from soaking in making the bun soggy! It works too.
Still looks like a LOT of hardwood in that compost.
What kind of wood do you use looks like PT hope not.
What do you think about mushroom compost?
Thanks and good job on the way you explained ! ❤
Does Dale dig where you put the bone meal? My one dog goes crazy, even jumps into my raise bed and digs… my whole reason I have raised gardens to keep the dogs out! 😆
YOU ARE JUST GIFTED WHEN IT COMES NATURALLY TO YOU!!!
what do you do when your raised bed is full from a few years of adding compost? No more space to add compost….
We can't use soil from our yard due to many walnut trees. I miss having a garden so much. Especially since the cost to feed a family has increased so much! It costs a ton to have it delivered where i live
I've been saving my wood ashes from my wood stove all winter. In addition to adding bone meal, would it be beneficial to include it with the bone meal?
Could you tell me the benefit of raised garden beds as opposed to planting directly in the ground. I see you have them behind you. Love your channel. Thx
How do you handle roots in your garden? My garden beds are full of roots from near by shrubs and trees. This year the roots were almost like a carpet. I am in the process of digging them out. Our property is surrounded by oaks trees and misc shrubs, so not an area to move garden. Any suggestions?
The millennial Garden, what is your opinion about using Epson salt for cell structure?
