Hi all! I moved into my house about a year and a half ago and there is a fig tree in the back yard. However they never turn the purple colour like I thought they would. They are soft now and I can peel them in half with my fingers with little effort. But other than that they haven't changed. I'm in south west WA.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated! I've been looking forward to trying to make jam!

Where do you live? I’ll come and test them for you.

Taste them? If they’re sweet they’re ripe I’d say. There are different species which are different colours. Some stay green I think. The inside looks good to go
I have 3 different fig species, all too small to allow to fruit, but their leaves are all different shapes too. U can maybe compare the sape of your leaves to images online to determine species

Looks like the White Adriatic, and definitely ripe! Looks really good too!

The outside part on the second photo doesn’t look ripe.

Not all figs turn purple. Some varieties stay green.

If they’re soft and easily opened then they are ripe. The ultimate test is taste. If the taste good they’re ripe. You can leave them long and they will go super soft and sweet.

Squeeze test if they aren’t changing colour.
