The Community Foundation of the South Okanagan and Similkameen is offering Neighbourhood Small Grants of up to $500 for the region.
“Spring brings fresh energy — and across the South Okanagan Similkameen, that energy shows up as shared meals, block gatherings, seed swaps, skill-sharing, and small acts of care that ripple outward,” the community foundation states. “Neighbourhood Small Grants supports resident‑led ideas that build connection, belonging, and local capacity.”
More than $30,000 in funding is available this year to support various projects.
In the past, the grants have supported more than 40 grassroots gatherings in Summerland and more than 30 in Princeton.
These gatherings build belonging, reduce isolation, are fun, and help neighbours feel invested in one another. That sense of connection strengthens the whole community,” said Kim English, regional development and Neighbourhood Small Grants manager.
The projects can include block gatherings or shared meals, cultural or seasonal celebrations, skill-sharing workshops, creative or arts activities, intergenerational connections and neighbourhood resilience projects such as emergency planning and preparedness.
The grant application period opened on March 6 and continues until April 17.
An online information session will be held on March 24 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89496852406.
In-person information sessions will be provided at the Princeton Library Room on March 21 from 11 a.m. to noon and at the Summerland Library on March 27 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.
