GARDEN CITY, Idaho (CBS20 — A group of protestors gathers outside of Garden City City Hall over concerns that a man accused of killing a cat locked in a cage could be getting off easy.
A Facebook message from the group identified as Operation Community Cats asked people who have been following the case to join them outside of City Hall on Tuesday. The protestors say they want to see stiffer penalties enacted for animal abuse and cruelty cases.
Idahonews.com has been reporting on the case since it first happened back in February.
On Feb. 15, 2026, Garden City Police received a radio call reporting an alleged animal abuse and shooting investigation in the 5100 block of North Alworth Street in Garden City. The caller reported seeing a white male in his 50s shoot a cat while it was locked in a cage. Officers responded to investigate alleged animal abuse and the discharge of a weapon within city limits. The suspect was later identified as George Gebran of Eagle.
The demonstrators told our crew that Gebran shot two caged cats. The Prosecutor’s officer sent a statement to Idahonews.com and CBS2 confirming that Gebran has been charged with two counts of Cruelty to animals and two counts of discharging a firearm in city limits.
On Feb. 27, 2026, an arrest warrant was issued for Gebran on the above charges, but was later quashed after he agreed to turn himself in.
