The Tedeschi Trucks Band has announced the release of a new feature film titled The Garden Party. The film documents the band’s sold-out, headlining debut performance at Madison Square Garden on September 29, 2023.
Directed by GRAMMY-nominated filmmaker John McDermott, the project captures the full scope of the band’s historic New York performance. McDermott previously directed projects including Music, Money, Madness…Jimi Hendrix In Maui and Eric Clapton & Steve Winwood Live at Madison Square Garden. The film was co-produced by BAFTA Award-winning producer George Scott alongside Derek Trucks, Susan Tedeschi and McDermott.
The Garden Party features footage from the Madison Square Garden concert interspersed with commentary from Trucks and Tedeschi. The performance included appearances from special guests Trey Anastasio, Norah Jones and Lukas Nelson. The show was praised as a “two-and-a-half-hour musical journey,” highlighting what many consider one of the most memorable performances in the band’s career.
“For both of us, going from Manny’s Car Wash to Madison Square Garden has been pretty surreal,” exclaims Trucks.
“This performance at Madison Square Garden showcases just how special and unique the Tedeschi Trucks Band is,” adds McDermott. “I have long wanted to create a film like this so that people everywhere can see how extraordinary this band is.”
The film will premiere at a special screening event at Brooklyn Bowl in New York on Sunday, March 22. The event takes place during the band’s 10-night residency at the Beacon Theatre, which runs March 10 through March 28.
The screening begins at 1 p.m. and will feature full concert sound. Tickets are $10 for adults, while admission is free for children under 16. Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the nonprofit HeadCount.
Following the Brooklyn premiere, another screening is scheduled for May 1 at the Regent Theater in Arlington, Massachusetts, near Tedeschi’s hometown of Boston. Additional screenings in select cities are planned later this spring.
The film announcement arrives just ahead of the release of the band’s upcoming album Future Soul, which is set to arrive March 20 via Fantasy Records. The album marks the band’s sixth studio release and was produced by Mike Elizondo, whose credits include work with Twenty One Pilots, Eminem, Dr. Dre and Carrie Underwood. Derek Trucks co-produced the record.
The 11-track album draws from a wide range of influences including funk, rock and roll, blues, soul and punk. The band has already shared the singles “I Got You” and “Who Am I” ahead of the album’s release.
To support the new album, Tedeschi Trucks Band will launch their Future Soul 2026 Tour beginning April 14. The Live Nation-produced tour will run through late October with stops across North America.
