I did the same thing. We have had a warm winter and I am trying to get my fruit trees trimmed before they bud out. I get about 5 done a day, except for a couple that have needed a trim for some time. I woke up this morning thinking I need to go to the gym more often in the winter to prepare. :] Still have peaches apricots 3 more apples 2 cheery and i plum to go. And thennnnn I have the garden to prep, grapes to trim, and a major job in the raspberries. I am feeling better now after resting this morning. Love to you all from SE Idaho, Patty
I have a small nursery. I have to workout just so I can garden. 😂
Struggling with an out-of-nowhere injury this week that’s keeping me from the garden. Thought, man I could really use a new Roots & Refuge video to keep me company! Perfect timing 💜
Hey Jess, my husband and I have moved to a new property with a lot of overgrowth! We are always gung-ho to jump into a new section of wildness but it does kick our posteriors for a good 2-3 days afterwards! Right now we are hitting crunch time as once the wildness starts to grow and the bugs come out full force we will have to wait until next year or suffer more than sore muscles! I am 65 and he is 64! He retires in 3 weeks! We have to learn to pace ourselves so that what we do for fun doesn’t ruin what we have been planning for a long time! Try Ashwagandha ! It does really help, especially with the rest your body needs to recover! Peace and blessings 🤗
This is happening to me as well, I have been so so sore. It feels good, I love being garden sore. I mean I’m hurting but it’s a purpose pain lol.
I want to read “A Good Life” have you read that one?
Happy Birthday Toby!!
I am also blessed with a husband who is also willing and able to support my gardening and mini homestead efforts.
I couldn't do without him. Today we planted my orchard and tomorrow begins the fence for the orchard. We are both 66 and while we arent fast, we get it done because we do it together.
What breed is the adorable Gus? Happiest of happy to you birthday boy!
Last year I added two small raised beds. I have 6 that are 4×7. My FIL gave me 4 cattle feed buckets last year. I want to preserve more food this year. Too much happening in the world and I want some peace of mind with home canned and frozen produce for my family. I have worked my back into spasms doing this and that. Rainy day later in week I will rest then. Land would be wonderful,2-3 acres and no neighbors too close.
I spent the past weekend weeding my side flower beds and I am sooo sore from squatting. But in all honesty I missed the feeling of being sore and feeling accomplished from garden chores.
I had a memory pop up on Facebook from Wiggins 7 years ago and a photo with you and Mia. ❤❤❤❤
Happy Birthday Toby!!!!!! Picked our first stalk of asparagus today here in SW OH! YAY
I’m reading Morgan’s book now. I got to purchase a copy in Charlotte. I am not too far in yet but it is very good so far! ❤
HAPPY 1️⃣4️⃣ BIRTHDAY TOBY!! Thanks for showing off your sweetie Gus to us! 😊
When I was little I got to go out picking dandelion leaves with my grandma for salad! They so taste good! This was back in the early 60s before there were pesticides being sprayed everywhere. She had a huge farden and orchard and had raised 7 kids there. Sure miss her.
Working for a whole day in the garden would leave me incapacitated for a week. After 4 hours or so on Saturday, I was out of commission for nearly 2 days. I didn't even do all that much, but my body fights me after just an hour or so. Congrats on the new puppy, Toby! Happy birthday!
❤❤❤
You know they’re homegrown unwashed eggs when you put a date on the carton and leave them out on the counter 😉. I have to explain this to everyone that comes to our house and sees the eggs on the counter.
This was me last week. I did a bunch of weeding, planting and cleaning up the yard. Took me three days to recover. I'll be weeding again this week. Pray that I don't 1/2 kill myself again.
That was me! 😃 The dandelion greens thing. I am so excited that you tried it out and I look forward to you letting everyone know how it goes. I too think it is a game changer. The one thing I would suggest, since you live in a warmer climate than I do, is taste them when ready and if you find any bitterness in them, just cover them for a day or two. Blanching them(darkness), should take that away. I just thought of that because you talked about the temperatures there. 😅
Prayers you're healing well, Jess. Happy Birthday belated and he got a puppy 🐶! So very sweet!
Happy birthday Toby!

The other day I took my husband on a date to a spring bulb class, when we got home I was exhausted. I decided to get my iris potted because they were sprouting in the bag and when I finished I seriously thought I might be able to run a marathon. There is just something so energizing about the promise of growth!
Happy Birthday, Toby! Love your new pup, Gus! So cute! 🐕🐶🎂❤
I'm so happy Spring is near and you get to be out in the garden again, Jess! Yay! 🥰🌱🌱🌱
I tried making fermented dandelion leaves last year just like you would do sauerkraut. They are actually pretty darn good, and super health benefits. It was part of what was helping Tom's critical level blood high blood pressure go down, we need to do it again this spring.
Great information, you are absolutely right about how much people want to charge these days. I’m learning to do more for myself.
I'm in Sumter, SC so we had similar weather this weekend and I did the exact same thing! I went waayyy too hard and now I'm at my desk in pain but I wouldn't change a thing 😂❤
❤ Im so jealous. Here in MN I just have my peppers popping up. I cant wait for everything to be green again. Thank you for being my inspiration.
Happy birthday Toby! Gus looks like a sweetie. We have our own Gus – ours is a little gray striped kitten and he is very sweet too.
Happy Birthday Toby & Happy Gotcha Day Gus-
So happy when I saw another video from Jess🎉. I, too, break dormancy 😂 when spring arrives. SADD just plain sucks but I found taking Vit D3 K2 (my Dr recommended Bronson brand) and embracing “hygge” worked wonders for me this year!
Please take care of your self.
I am right alongside you. Our house foundation is slipping. Spent almost 2 weeks of digging and replanting native bushes and plants that were well established to clear the way for the foundation replacement on the East side. Plus I am putting in new raised beds since the wood decayed. Seeds planted and weeds need pulling. Never a spare moment lately it seems! Happy Birthday Toby! Love your new Gus puppy!
Happy Birthday!
I also decided to just take the winter off…
I did however finally get the front door painted inside and out after 25 years of indecision and procrastinating.
At 71, I know this years Garden Cleanup is going to be a struggle.
That’s just the reality of growing older.
Have you figured out how to keep ants out of your greenstalks? They are driving me NUTS!
I hope Gus was a rescued dog! Ive a non-profit animal rescue for 19 years.. I hope everyone will rescue at least once, and to always spay and neuter!!😊🐶

Same. I way overdid it. It feels so good until it bites back 😂
