I have him for a few years, I really don't know what's happening.
I'm worried.

No he’s getting old. It’s corking.

corking is very normal in cacti. It can happen faster if you fertilize the soil, since the cactus may grow faster when you fertilize it yearly. Cactus soil does not need much nutrition, and cacti do perfectly fine without much feeding at all. But corking is also very common once the plant is a few years old. At that point, cacti often start to cork a little.
It just makes that part of the cactus sturdier and more stable, so it can support the weight of the rest of the plant. To check whether it is corking, you can feel it. If it feels like bark and it is hard, then it is corking. There is nothing to stress about. You can just leave it alone, it is natural and it happens.

When half of the plant, has started to cork, then you can start thinking about trimming off a small part of the cactus and planting it in fresh soil. That way, you will get new growth. But it is simply a natural process.

  4. Hello. I have one but he is just young and still green. The brown spot is korking as far I can see. It is the normal behaviour and older plant I saw get the hole mainpart with korking. You are fine.
