Itβs March, and Iβm getting started with the first cut flower seeds of the season π± In this video I share exactly what Iβm sowing now and how to get it off to the best start.
Iβm starting half-hardy annuals like marigolds, zinnias, celosia, amaranth, helichrysum, artichokes, lavatera and scabious – plus sharing tips on soil blocking, lighting, temperature and how to avoid leggy seedlings.
Whether youβre growing for market, for bouquets, or just for your own garden, I hope this helps you decide what to sow right now.

First year trying to grow some flowers this year, not to sell, just to make the gardens a bit nicer. Your channel has been a great help! Got my delivery from Chiltern Seeds yesterday, I think I may have gone a bit over the top with the amount I ordered! π
Hi, Sarah. Thanks for very informative video. Have you a video about making your grow-tent, please? I can't work out if it's in a building or a 'tent' within your poly tunnel. Thanksπ
I was seed starting my zinnias when I decided to take a break and saw you had posted a new video!!!! Great list to start in March. A few on your list I have never grown so I might take a chance on them this year. Thanks!
Great video! I love Scabious Oxford blue but the leaves always become distorted, I'm wondering if they need a particular nutrient more than other plants. On a mission to figure this out π π
Such lovely content and information, thank you so much!
Have you/ Would you create a video on Pinching Off and Dead-Heading? I.e.: Why, When, Where, How to do it, and Which Varieties benefit from it?
Ooops cilodia had the matigold info on screen
In my long experience, artichoke will grow in bad soil just qs well. Under trees it loves it. Such a strog plant
this year I added wormcastings to my seed starting mix and all of these small white bulb mites hatched and ate most of the seeds π I dont think I can handle risking that again! they especially loved the stocks seed
do you have experience with that? or where do you get yours from?
Hi Sarah – Great video! I wasnβt sure if you knew, but Nicole from Flower Hill Farm mentioned you and your swift blockers today. Fun for me to be able to watch both of your videos on the same day. π»
Like @ThePosyCo mentioned allready, Nicole from Flower Hill Farm mentioned you. Both my favourite flower farmers post videos on the same day? Jackpot! πβ€
what is the make of your shelving with lighting called. tia
Hey love the videos getting me insipred …
Have you ever mucked around with leek flowers (dry really well) or other veg flowers ? Brassicas and raddish flowers are great and unusual.
Also have you ever used a blue light 300w cfl lamp has a great lux output for growing on seedlings .. and you may want to consider more fans in your grow tent ..
Thanks for your uploads…x
Nice video. Alarmed to realised how many of these things are already on my listβ¦ a few new varieties of some flowers though. Always good to have an enabler for more seeds πβ€
Great information. Hope your new tent works well.
We grow Amaranthus to eat and you can definitely grow them really close together!

Would you use the soil smith stuff as well as Mycorrhizal fungi?
Ohh some lovely inspiration here. I have promised myself no more seeds this year but am making notes of things I can add if this year is a success and I want to grow the space next season β€
Starting half-hardy annuals early is such a smart way to ensure strong summer blooms. Thanks for sharing!
Are the leaves of the Amaranth tasty?
Thank you so much for all your valuable information β I love your channel for its authenticity. I'm a new follower and fan π
Slugs ate almost all my zinnias last year- any tips?
