PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — Leach Botanical Garden has met is short-term fundraising goal.

Last month, the garden said it would need to close this month unless it could get enough donations.

It says it can now keep its doors open through at least June 30.

The historic garden had been facing a funding crisis.

Portland Parks and Recreation decided not to renew its agreement with Leach Garden Friends, which is the nonprofit that operates the garden.

That decision was the result of a 2022 agreement between the city and the nonprofit to phase out funds.

The garden laid off staff and reduced hours.

Its last call for help didn’t just bring in the cash, it also brought in volunteers to help with maintenance.

The garden is still asking for your help.

You can help keep it open by becoming a recurring donor or member.
