  1. Thanks for telling us about BC Eco Seed Coop, those prices are good. I won't be supporting William Dam Seeds with their prices.

  2. I grew Jimmy Nardello peppers last year, and they are so much fun to grow. Very unique with their bumpy shapes, very prolific and tough plants. I grew mine outdoors in a raised bed. They can be eaten both green and ripe red. They pickle nicely and also dry well when simply hung to dry. I garden in Manitoba Interlake Zone 3. I am attempting to overwinter some plants, both dry-rooted and potted.

  3. I blanch, vacuum pack and freeze my rutabaga. It works really well for me . I can pull a package and add to my soup.
I struggle with growing belly papers here in NW North Dakota. They never get any size to them. I am going to try growing bags insifr of my Greenhouse this year hopefully I'll have better luck.

  4. I became a kale fan once I discovered dinosaur kale, also referred to as lacinato kale. It still benefits from massaging…who doesn't…for salads but I blanch and freeze most of mine for smoothies and soups. I buy black magic kale from Vesseys. Grows like a weed. I can harvest every three to four days. I grow it in a covered tunnel as flea beetles really love it. Last year for the first time slugs attacked the entire crop. Eeyuch!! Have to keep a better watch out for them this year.

  5. I also struggle with the strawberries and hope my small patch will survive the winter. I picked up some alpine strawberry seeds that I will try starting from seed indoors and in winter sowing jugs

  6. I have grown mashed potato squash in the peace river area of northern bc. They do taste like mashed potatoes.

  7. Sharon thank you so much for your tip on growing peppers in pots, I had same varieties of peppers and eggplants in pots and raised beds last summer, and plants in pots outperformed a lot! I am in Manitoba zone 3. By the way, we have a great seed company "Heritage Harvest Seed" – great variety of heirloom seed, especially tomatoes! Looking forward to the new season 🙂

  8. Hi Sharon! Always love to see what new seeds people are starting! I hope you do a video on those seeds you start indoors early. In a past video you talked about how you started your Thalictrum Rocohebrunianum from seed. So I got some seed. Wondering when you started that from seed? My research shows me to cold stratify the seed for 2-4 weeks, then surface sow and that it can take 2-4 weeks (even longer) to germinate. Says not to use a heat mat and grow cool – 60 -65 degrees and to have 12 weeks to grow this on to be able to plant it out after last frost. My last frost is June 1st. I’m thinking I should start it now? So curious how you started yours from seed.

  9. I chuckled at your comment about the onion rings you'd get from a 15 lb onion! I made onion rings earlier this week from our onions that weighed between 1/2 lb and 1 lb. They were very big rings, and I sure wouldn't want them any bigger! 😂
I just received my seed orders and will sow my onions within a week or so. I'm looking forward to another season of planting and harvesting.
I will also give celery a try, first time. Any advice is welcome!

  10. Watching from zone 2b in northwestern Ontario. It’s great to watch videos from experienced Canadian gardeners who have similar climates.

  11. I grew those exact asarina from William dam last year in a shady area, and they were so vigorous! It was a pain to get them untangled from starting them indoors though

  12. Can you tell me what shelves you have? Mine are far too narrow and the shelves are not adjustable. I am enjoying your videos and like you, I cannot wait to start seeds here in Ontario, zone 4b.

  13. I can appreciate your dislike of kale and I had the same idea last year with freezing and using in soups. However, I should tell you, it did NOT taste good in soup! My family and I all hated it, and it ruined my delicious soup unfortunately. The only thing it is good for is green smoothies now.

  14. I love the red robin. Its my first to ripen and lasts all summer. Its a little tomato machine that just keeps pumping out tomatoes all summer. It takes up so little space and the tomatoes are tasty too!

  15. I have strawberries in raised beds here at Dauphin. The first year the soil was rich and plants really grew well, but most didn’t overwinter. Since then, I have found you need an insulated raised beds or a large enough one that you’re not planting close to the edge. We have a bed by the house that I throw all the snow onto and they survive right to the edge. Mine are June bearing ones that I have from my mom’s garden about 30 years ago.
