  1. Just a harmless garter snake coming to get a meal of bugs from the pile. No need to worry 🤣

So glad no snakes in Hawaii. I would freak out if I saw that in my pile.

Good friend. Keeps bad friends away by eating them.

Your pile? That’s her pile now

Does their excrement add nutrients back to the pile?

  14. Such a cute lil snek!

I have geckos in my compost, so I try to give them a bit of warning before turning it — Spray it down with water, gently kick the sides of the bin, etc. And a lot of the denizens come running out, or I think they’re more ready to run with a disturbance. Could be worth trying.

Also, turning the compost will get more of the bugs out for snek food! Circle of life.
