The public is invited to a morning of FREE gardening classes and demonstrations at our annual Garden Discovery Day event, Saturday, March 28, 8:30 am to noon, at the Milwaukie Center, 5440 SE Kellogg Creek Drive, Milwaukie. This year’s sessions have something for everyone, from the seasoned expert to the beginning gardener. Along with informative classes, OSU Extension Service Master Gardeners will be offering gardening advice at the “Let’s Talk Plant’s” table right when you walk in the door, free pH soil testing, and educational hands-on displays covering a range of gardening topics.
Presentations begin at 9 a.m. but doors will open at 8:30 a.m. for early birds who wish to view educational displays or visit with OSU Master Gardeners at the “Let’s Talk Plants” table.
9:00 • The History and Science of the Terrarium presented by Daniel Fender of Roosevelt’s Terrariums. A door prize at end of this presentation will be a gift card for Roosevelt’s Terrariums.
10:00 • Seeds and Seed Propagation – a talk by Ann Amato – specialist in plant and seed propagation. The door prize at end of this session will include a basket with some of Ann’s favorite seeds.
11:00 • Growing Early Season Vegetables – a presentation by Jane Collier, Clackamas County Master Gardener vegetable expert. We will have a door prize of plant starts for the always ready early bird gardener at end of Jane’s presentation.
Free Soil pH Testing: Bring a soil sample and learn about soil pH. This free service will test up to four samples per client and give advice on whether amendments are needed. See webpage for info on taking your samples. 4 samples per client please.
Let’s Talk Plants! OSU Extension Master Gardener volunteers will be available offering one-on-one advice for all your gardening questions. Bring photos or plant samples that show exactly what’s going on in your garden.
