The beautiful walled kitchen garden walk hard to believe is in London reopens along River Thames

It’s bursting with seasonal blooms and is free to enter

A stunning walled kitchen garden on the edge of Surrey has reopened in time for spring.

Situated inside Chiswick House and Garden, 25 minutes drive from East Molesey, the historic beauty spot is a 350-year-old haven, teeming with nature, stories and activities.

Free to enter, everyone is invited to wander and taste what’s growing in the kitchen garden during a glorious walk around the 65-acre site.

Reopening on March 5, the gardeners take a no-dig approach, growing produce and flowers using organic principles, minimal watering and homemade compost.

Designed in the 17th century for productivity and for people to spend time in, the Kitchen Garden continues to reflect its original purpose.

The Kitchen Garden produced more than three tons of fruit and vegetables last year, with over 50% donated to local food charities.

Walkers can see the abundance of produce growing in the vegetable plots and on fruit trees including an avenue of 44 pear trees, and enjoy the field of flowers for cutting, including alliums, dahlias and peonies.

New for 2026 is a spring bulb display in the grass meadow, shady seating in ‘Mulberry corner’ and a living demonstration of the ‘three sisters’ planting method, with sweetcorn, climbing French beans and squashes.

It’s hard to believe, the peaceful child and dog-friendly attraction is tucked away in West London.

Visitors can meet gardeners at work, soak up the spring sunshine and enjoy a quiet moment in the calm and inspiring surroundings.

With acres of woodland, lawns and gardens, there’s plenty of space for children to play, walk, picnic and tuck into an ice cream.

Café Colicci can be found next to a playground, which serves specialty coffee and cakes from an in-house bakery, seasonal dishes, freshly baked sourdough pizzas and a kids menu.
