When it comes to gardening, people want equipment and tools that are easy to use, lightweight and efficient – and that don’t cost a fortune. At Yimbly, a shopping marketplace owned by this site’s parent company Reach Plc, a planter gardeners are loving has been reduced by more than £40, but shoppers can save even more with an extra 10% off with a code.
The VegTrug Medium Classic Planter is currently on sale for £175.99, down from £219.99. However, shoppers can get it even cheaper with the code ‘SPRING10’, bringing the price down to £158.40 at checkout.
This makes it cheaper than Amazon, where it is being sold for £189.99, down from £219.99. Yimbly says this Medium Split 1.8m VegTrug Planter features re-engineered panels that are lighter and more compact, making every stage from unpacking to planting simple and accessible. It is said to be ‘perfect for all gardeners from beginners to green-fingered pros’.
Made from 100% FSC-certified cedar wood, treated with a water-based food safe preservative, this planter is durable, eco-friendly and ready for planting straightaway, the site says. The V-shaped design allows deep-and shallow-rooted crops to grow together, while its 420-litre soil capacity is said to provide plenty of space for vegetables, herbs, and flowers.
There are six protective plastic feet covers and a pre-formed biodegradable liner to ‘ensure stability and healthy soil with minimal maintenance’, and its raised height means there is no need for bending or kneeling. Its dimensions are 80cm x 183.4cm x 76cm.

For a more budget-friendly smaller alternative, Argos is selling the Argos Home Wooden Rectangle Outdoor Planter for £25. Measuring nearly 3ft wide, this wooden planter with drainage holes provides ‘plenty of growing space’ and it is frost and rust resistant.
Or at Next, there is the small Charles Bentley Grey Garden Trough Slate 60cm Planter for £30. Made of lightweight plastic, the site says this trough plant pot has room for ‘an abundance of plants or flowers’, and it is finished with a neutral grey slate effect.
While there are no direct reviews for the VegTrug Medium Classic Planter on Yimbly, there are plenty on Robert Dyas, where it is being sold at a higher price of £189.99. One customer said: “Ideal product for growing vegetables and herbs in a small garden and also at a comfortable height to avoid bending.”

A second wrote: “Star purchase… Why didn’t I buy this earlier! Absolutely delighted with the purchase of my VegTrug, which not only looks great but is manufactured to a high quality and went together perfectly. Within a matter of weeks it has allowed me to start harvesting fresh greens and I really enjoy watching my vegetable garden flourish with no pesky snails or slugs in sight!”
Someone else shared: “Trug was delivered safely. I was delighted with the quality of the parts and the fit. Instructions were unusually helpful. Having constructed it, it is now full of vegetable plants and no slugs!”
Others left some feedback on the VegTrug Medium Classic Planter, with one shopper writing: “Pricey but ideal design for a backyard. Good visually. Yet to be planted. Assembly was straight forward and items well packaged.”
Another said: “Excellent, great quality planter with clear build instructions. Gave four stars rather than five stars that I gave my large one simply because some of the screw holes didn’t line up so missed their attachment. Redid them so not a problem.”
