Spring is waking up fast in the backyard—redbuds are blooming, boxwoods are pushing fresh growth, and I’m taking you along on a Wednesday Walkabout to share what worked, what didn’t, and what I’m changing next.

In this episode, we’ll cover practical, real-life garden fixes and quick seasonal upgrades, including:

Refreshing the back-step pots + spotting new growth on Green Mountain boxwood

What to do with spent daffodils (and how to “bank” those blooms for next year)

My simple method for planting in a cachepot with no drainage (and how to water safely)

A charming woodland look using hollowed bark/trunk planters (fern styling for spring/Easter)

What’s thriving right now in the raised beds: Swiss chard and emerging peas

What didn’t go as planned: squirrels digging up peas + lettuce

The easy, inexpensive solution: fine mesh tulle secured with landscape staples (rain-friendly and light-permeable)

A smart combo planting: blueberries + cut-and-come-again greens in one bed

Planting Tête-à-Tête daffodils along the east sidewalk bed for a bigger show next year

A quick mini project: seeding lettuce in a long terracotta trough and speeding germination with gentle warmth (perfect for cool-season crops)

If you love simple, elegant garden solutions, seasonal styling, and realistic backyard progress—this one is packed with ideas you can use right away.

  1. Linda I love your hair style…but your hairdresser need to add less blonde "bleach" to your hair. The back of your hair looks over bleached…and not soft. Your hair looks strees and over bleached. Go easy…before yout hair starts to break off.
I love your skills as a gardener.

  2. Very nice and for informative video nice sharing iPhone watch online watch your video and watched🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

  3. I tie the dying leaves of daffodils together and then roll them in a little "wreath " close to the ground, so you can hardly see them. Linda, is it an idea to make a little lose box over the gasbox, like the aircoscrean?

  4. Hi Linda, would you please share the paint color of your back door? It’s a gorgeous color, is that the same paint color as your fence? If not would you share that as well. Thank you!

  5. Hi Linda, Stewart. I think using the tulle fabric is a good way to ward off the pesky nemesis. Yes, take that squirrels! I'm even had problems with chipmunks. Oh, and another subscriber suggested Summer Lane for the east side before, and I love that. Lots to consider! 🌱❤️

  6. I feel your pain with the pesky squirrels.🐿️ Here in Southern New England it is the rabbits that drive us crazy.

  7. You could name your daffodil area the Golden Stroll. 😊. Still waiting for spring in Oregon. Planting on a budget and apartment deck is difficult but I'm up for the challenge

  8. I had boxwoods for years and some kind of blight hit them and i cant get rid of so we had to dug them up 😢

  9. I know…the Golden Promenade (hopefully I spelled this right). Love the channel! Very inspirational. Even for my tiny deck, you gave me great container ideas 😀

  10. Tolle is indispensable in the garden, not only to keep squirrels out but I use white tolle in the summer to cover tender plants from the scorching sun and use black in the winter to attract the heat and protect tender plans from cold. I’ve used it to cover plants that get hit by Japanese beetles too.., I love it

  11. I really like your road side walkway garden too 🌼💖🪴❤
