What if the “weeds” in your yard were actually free food packed with nutrients? 🌿
In this video, you’ll discover 8 common edible weeds that may already be growing right outside your door. These wild plants have been used for food and medicine for thousands of years — yet most people still pull them out and throw them away.
You’ll learn how to identify each plant safely, how to tell them apart from dangerous lookalikes, and the simple rules experienced foragers follow to harvest wild food with confidence.
By the end of this guide, you’ll start seeing your lawn, garden, and even sidewalk cracks in a completely new way — not as weeds, but as a free backyard grocery store.
In this video we cover:
🌿 Purslane – one of the most nutrient-dense plants on earth
🌼 Dandelion – every part of the plant is edible
🌱 Common Plantain – the survival herb growing in pathways
🍃 Wood Sorrel – a naturally lemony wild snack
🌿 Sheep’s Sorrel – a traditional soup herb
🌱 Chickweed – a mild, vitamin-rich green
🍃 Lamb’s Quarters – wild spinach with incredible nutrition
🌳 Hawthorn – a tree with edible berries and medicinal history
⚠️ We also cover the 4 safety rules every beginner forager must know before harvesting wild plants.
Once you know these plants, you’ll never look at your yard the same way again.

The only photos you show for plaintain are bananas – it's not helpful to state that you mean the plantain that it NOT like a banana, and then ONLY show bananas.
Please source the correct photos. Thank you.
Thank you for this! I just found out a whole bunch of stuff on my property is edible. I had no idea that I bought a food forest and I’ve been here for almost 5 years. I had a salad from my front yard the other day and it was delicious and so much more healthy than the junk at the store. I love bitter greens and different flavors so it was spectacular for me. I’ve been using an app called “picture this” to identify plants. But there are quite a few of them out there I think. So you don’t have to rely on your own judgment. You can just use your camera on your cell phone and find out if it’s the right species. And now my chickens have all kinds of food that I didn’t know. One is literally is called chickweed! My eggs are now dark orange yolks because they’re eating so well. Then whenever I eat those eggs, I’m getting all kinds of good things. So the plants that I can’t eat the chickens can eat… and then I eat the chickens and the eggs so I’m literally eating everything in my food forest on my Homestead and it’s only a quarter of an acre. Also, I must have over 1000 Yaupon Holly trees for tea! 😂 I have probably 1000 holly trees that are less than a foot tall that have come up on my property this spring and usually I just mow them down because I didn’t know what they were. 😂 I’m not sure what I’m gonna do, but I’m not mowing them down this year!
God bless u
As kids, we loved wood sorrel. It would have been useful if we'd known the medicinal uses of plantain (video has no illustration of the plantain – just of the banana-like fruit.)
I live in rural southern Indiana and have eaten all these and many more. Last summer I picked, blanched and froze 11 quart Ziplock bags of lamb’s Quarters. I don’t care for dandelions except the petals. Chickweed is just now peeking out!
Purslane makes amazing refrigerator pickle.
