JASPER COUNTY, Texas (KTRE) – A Jasper man is behind bars after a deputy shot the man with a Taser and deployed a chemical agent to stop him from approaching with a garden tool, according to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office.
Matthew Giuseppe Lattanzi, 32, of Jasper, was held Saturday awaiting arraignment on a charge of aggravated assault against a public servant, according to Jasper County Jail records.
Around 8:11 a.m. Saturday, a deputy responded to a physical disturbance in the 100 block of County Road 186 in Jasper County when Lattanzi immediately began advancing toward the man with a “large garden tool,” according to the sheriff’s office.
The deputy shot Lattanzi with a Taser and deployed an unknown chemical agent that had “little effect” before the deputy was able to arrest him, according to the sheriff’s office.
The deputy also arrested Lourdes Lattanzi at the home for interfering with the arrest. She is awaiting arraignment on a charge of interfering with public duties, according to Jasper County Jail records.
Charged with a first-degree felony, Matthew Lattanzi faces between five and 99 years, or life, in prison, and a fine of up to $10,000 if convicted.
