Hi Garden Friends, After keeping a garden journal all year, I’m sharing seven things that stood out and changed how I approach planting, containers, and long term garden planning for the seasons ahead. If you’re planning your 2026 garden, or simply reflecting on what worked and what didn’t, I think you’ll relate. Let me know your thoughts in the comments. Great list Steph added to my 2026 garden organizer a great review when I feel overwhelmed. Three years ago I was watering a minimum two hours every morning before work. I started to think of my gardens/containers as a chore added water drip a game changer and started enjoying my flowers. Thank you and Happy New Year!
Could you make a deer resistant video please?
Girl….that bag of soil in your thumbnail is 45 dollars!!! 45 dollar dirt?!?!
Being gentle & flexible with our own expectations is a healthy gardening mindset. Enjoy!
Great tips! I also let go of my bulb buying this fall. It will be interesting to see what comes back this year!
Thanks for all the good info. However, your shirt/dress is beautiful. Share where you purchased please.
Great points! Simplify and enjoy, less guilt in less time.
I’d take watering over weeding any day 😂 I never got into dahlias. Happy New Year!! 🎊
I always enjoy your videos! I feel the same way about so many of these things.
This video is fantastic! Thanks for sharing! 😊
Hi Steph and all😁
Can you recommend a heavy duty garden chart with a dumping option? I am really interested in purchasing one?
Thanks,
Sayless
GAME CHANGERS …
1) Drip irrigation for our containers
2) hose attachment to apply weekly fertilizer for containers
3) Yard Enforcer for deer, bunnies, raccoons & bear
4) growing dahlias in containers that I overwinter in my garage
Drip irrigation has been a HUGE game changer for us . We have a large deck with upwards of 50 containers of annuals, 7 hanging baskets of zucchini, summer squash and cucumbers, a couple window boxes of carrots plus a Greenstalk vertical garden for our herbs, strawberries and tomatoes to keep watered. It saves us so much time by having them on drip with a timer to go off every morning for 15 minutes . The Greenstalk reservoir fills twice a week.
The sprayer jug we put our PW water soluble fertilizer in has cut our watering time down to a tiny fraction of what it use to be.
The motion detector sprinklers – we bought a second one after we saw how helpful they were in saving our hostas and hydrangeas from the deer and keeping the raccoons and bear from our bird feeders. We set ours to go on at dusk and off at dawn. They cut way down on spending money to keep spraying Liquid Fence .
The dahlias in large containers on my deck – I don’t have to dug them up and store them and replant in the spring . I just store the pots in the garage for them winter. I divide them every few years .
Every video, you address every question or feeling I've ever had. My plant soul sister❤!!
🙌🙌On minivan love as a gardener. So relatable 😂
Thank you! Great video with wonderful, thoughtful tips and ideas. I got a lot out of this!
Why do you use vermiculite?
What are the pretty pink roses behind sunflowers around the 12:20 min mark? Are those knockout roses? @HookedandRooted
So what did you do with so many dahlia tubers, can you keep them for two more years, or give them to your friends :)?
I said I'd never have a minivan, and I got one and had it for 10 years, it finally died and we had to get a smaller car and I cried. I ended up loving that van.
Hi Steph. Would you at one time share your garden journal. I’m been gardening for a while but have never journaled. It would be nice to see how other people do it. What they keep track or and how. Thanks for your channel. It’s such an inspiration and especially love all your gardens. Makes the winter season bearable.
It's so nice to hear someone else say doing things you love do and that it's ok to just take a break and stop to smell the flowers we do have .less is more in my case. But I love your graden and wish that had the space fore more sometimes 😂
This video was just so timely for my life. "Dahlias, darling, it's not you it's me". I have started transitioning to small specimen evergreens which require no pruning and increase my winter interest. I did my first warm/hot colors bed 2 years ago, and was surprised at how much I loved it. Thank you for the encouragement.
This video really made me think about my gardening experience.. Thanks for this insightful video.
