Did a controlled burn on this 4 acre pasture last week to begin restoring it to native southern oak savanna. Upper East TN.
This weekend I seeded with 10lb of Roundstone’s Quail habitat mix cut with 100lb of vermiculite for consistency in spreading. I threw in a little Big Bluestem too near the center for variety.
Pictures are of the fire, and the seed mixture. Always interesting to see the deer trails pop out of the ash.
Can’t wait for a couple months from now to see how much germinated.

Wow! I’d love to see updates!
Nice work! Love your username.
agree with others, please keep us posted. I am jealous you got to do a burn, it was too much fire risk in my parts last fall so I wasn’t able to.
how does your county handle prescribed burns? do you need to coordinate with local FD and have a permit? how was the overall process (planning and execution)?
How did you get involved with this? Is this your job or a group you volunteer with?
Round stone is fantastic to order from. I had to call for some advice and the woman I spoke with got me sorted.

Very cool. Love to see this!
Are you doing anything to keep seeds from washing down the slope? I’m facing some steep slopes in a woodland (gov. property) I’m restoring. I figure i’ll have to use plugs. I’m not sure that blanketing the slopes with seed and burlap will do it
Love Roundstone and have had great success.
What was growing there that you burned? Will be interested in seeing whether you get much regrowth. I attended a seminar session last summer called “Can you kill it with fire.” Answer: usually not, with some exceptions.
Surprised you intentionally planted ragweed.
